Photos of Mount Tamalpais Park, close to San Francisco
Mount Tamalpais (that's tam-uhl-pie-us) is 2571 feet high, and is located in the heart of Marin county, just north of San Francisco and the Golden Gate Bridge. Originally created in 1928, the park has grown to cover 6300 acres. The mountain has been created by pressure from the San Andreas fault, which lies just offshore. More than fifty miles of trails lie within the park. It took us about an hour and a half to get almost to the peak by car. (They leave the last little bit to be done on foot so you can feel like you accomplished something!)
