Wendy had the Large Pansotti, $19NZD, (medium, $14.50NZD). This vegetarian option turned out to be a disappointing dish of pumpkin ravioli with basil and parmesan. It was served al dente, but was surprisingly tasteless. The Italian tomato sauce it came with just didn’t complement the pasta, either.
There were jars of pre-grated (and very processed) parmesan on the tables. Not really what you would hope for in an Italian restaurant. The seating outside would have been very pleasant except that it was unfortunately smoky – really not something we appreciate and definitely not baby-friendly. To top it off, the food was served warm, but not hot. Overall, we weren’t impressed and wouldn’t be in a hurry to return.
Wow, it’s fun to see the a restaurant that randomly we went is on the blog 🙂
We were in Te Anau late of May this year, and we tried to get a late lunch (about 4 pm) in the town. There were only 2 restaurant opened because most of others already closed for the winter. The other one was smell a bit mildewy, so we went to this one. It happened to be their last day of being open before closing for the winter. I didn’t remember much of the pizza that we ate, but I enjoyed playing with the table decoration that is made with various uncooked pasta 🙂

I think you may have the wrong restaurant, La Toscana doesn’t open until 5:30 and is open all winter.
