While the hotels of Ein Bobek are the fance, expensive ones, they are actually not the best place to stay. They’re at the southern end of the Dead Sea where falling water levels have meant the sea has dried up and is not as picturesque as the northern end. Some hotels that used to be right at the water’s edge now run their guests down to the Sea in little trams.Ein Gedi features a great public beach that’s clean, free and offers fabulous fresh-water showers along with tons of free parking. A short 5 minute drive brings you to the Ein Gedi Youth Hostel.
We had a private room with a great bathroom. There was lots of hot water, double sinks(!), comfy beds, a TV, and free parking. Breakfast is included and they even tried to accommodate our desire to leave really early (to see the sunrise at Masada) with a boxed breakfast. There is a cafeteria that serves lunch and dinner for an additional (reasonable) fee. It’s a large buffet with plenty of choice. Juice, tea and coffee are included as well as the food.
