Sonoma County is located 35 miles north of the Golden Gate Bridge, along California State Route 101. 

Covering 1,604 square miles, it is bordered to the west by the Pacific Ocean, to the east by the Mayacamas Mountains, to the south by the San Pablo Bay and to the north by the Geysers. 
As of 1999, Sonoma County was home to 443,700 residents.
